A Welcome to the Young Professionals of Lenoir County from YP Chair Kristy Harrell

The Young Professionals of Lenoir County (YPLC) was created to foster an environment for individuals ages 21-39 to connect…enrich…empower. This professional association, established in 2008, provides opportunities for professional development, community outreach, social networking, mentoring, and personal growth for our members. Our goal is to be a diverse group of individuals with a common purpose of bettering our workplaces, our community, and ourselves.

“I am pleased to introduce myself as the new chairman of the Young Professionals of Lenoir County and am very excited to be working with our YPLC Vice President, Richy Huneycutt from Lenoir Community College,” Strategic Account Manager with CIC Financial, Inc., Kristy Harrell says.

This will be my 4th year as a member of YPLC. In preparation for 2018, I have had many conversations with other young professionals over the last two months regarding this group. Upon hearing their feedback, ideas, and concerns, I have found that our city and county’s young professionals appear to have a resounding desire to serve our community and make a positive, lasting impact. We live in a fantastic community. However there are many unmet needs. That means there are opportunities for us to roll up our sleeves and serve.  With that said, our committee has taken on the task of balancing meaningful volunteer opportunities with professional development and social networking events.  We unfortunately will not be able to serve in all areas of need but we must (and we will) start somewhere.

Our plans are to provide YPs with the opportunity to connect and participate with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Lenoir County, the Lenoir County SPCA, Mary’s Kitchen, and other local non-profits.  We are working towards partnerships with other civic groups, including Rotaract and Kinston Teens, to assist them in their service endeavors. I feel that we share common goals and envision the YPs working side-by-side to foster and support community growth.

In addition, we plan to provide YPs with opportunities to serve community leaders such as the Kinston Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce and Pride of Kinston board members and staff who all work very hard for our community’s economic and cultural development. And lastly, we will most certainly make time for fun!  We have some new social events that we’re excited to host and think the YPs will be excited to attend.

With all of that said, I am looking forward to the upcoming year!
